Determination of Phytol Enantiomers in Plant-Based Dairy Products by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry

A method for the determination of phytol enantiomers in plant-based dairy products was established by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The pretreatment process was optimized, and the figures of merit of the proposed method such as linear relationship, precision, spiked recovery, limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantitation (LOQ) were investigated. Results showed that in the concentration range of 0.0–1.0 μg/mL, the linearity of the method was good (r > 0.999). The LODs of E- and Z-phytanol were 0.03 and 0.04 mg/kg, respectively, and the respective LOQs were 0.09 and 0.10 mg/kg. The recoveries of E- and Z-phytanol in spiked samples were 78.6%–93.5% and 79.5%–94.7%, respectively with relative standard deviations (RSDs) less than 10%. This method is sensitive, accurate and repeatable, and can be used for the determination of phytol enantiomers in plant-based dairy products.

The effective governance of food safety rumors requires the use of precision thinking to achieve precision governance. Food safety rumors are started and spread based on the Internet environment. They are characterized by labeling, visualization and socialization, and are mainly spread among middle-aged and elderly groups. At present, there are still some weak links in the construction of the food safety rumor governance system, food safety risks cannot be resolved in a short time, and there are still some prominent problems in the primary responsibility of food enterprises and the supervision of Internet enterprises on rumors. Coordinating efforts and taking targeted measures according to rumor sources, communication media, communication subject and so on for food safety rumor governance system construction will help to achieve the precision and effective governance of food safety rumors.

A megalopolis is not only the main body of dairy production and consumption, but also the main area where dairy safety supervision risks exist. At present, some risks exist in the production of raw materials for dairy products such as attaching more importance to safety than quality, and in the procedures of deep processing and circulation such as excessive processing, storage and hygiene issues during transportation; some problems exist in the field of dairy products safety supervision such as insufficient exertion of government functions and inadequate participation of social supervision. In order to defuse dairy products safety supervision risks and achieve effective governance of dairy production, it is needed to strengthen supervision over all processing steps of raw materials so as to provide guarantee for raw material quality construction, construct a sound and perfect quality evaluation and traceability system for deep processing and circulation, and to implement precision and standardized government supervision for supervision measures construction, and create conditions for social sharing and co-governance.

This review presents an overview of the current food safety problems in China. From the perspective of Marxist philosophy, it systematically analyzes the three main sources of food safety risks in China and provides targeted suggestions. There are historical reasons for the current food safety risks, which occur in accordance with the law of social development. Overall, various food safety risks exist objectively at present, and there is still a big gap between the food safety level and people’s needs for a better life. Scientifically speaking, food safety does not represent absolute safety. There should be zero tolerance to any food safety problem, but we must admit that there is no zero risk food. We suggest that the capacity to manage food safety risks should be enhanced by adhering to the people-centered development thought, adhering to the thought on ecological civilization, practicing the core socialist values, adhering to scientific development and implementing social co-governance.
